Studio Policies
Game Preservation
✔ Caledonia Interactive will endeavor to ensure its games remain available to players:
The studio fully supports the 'Stop Killing Games' initiative.
Caledonia Interactive will never delist a shipped game of its own volition.
In the unlikely event that Steam or the Epic Games Store can no longer operate as a store front the studio will move its games to another vendor or sell them directly on the studios own website.
In the long-term Caledonia Interactive will endeavor to release its games on as wide a spectrum of platforms and vendors as possible in order to maximize availability.
If the studio does add multiplayer components to any of its games in the future these games and their back end infrastructure will be designed to be transferable to player hosted servers or other similar means to achieve long-term preservation.
✗ Caledonia Interactive will not supplant its own games:
If one of the studios games recieves a major remaster that is deployed as a separate product the original version will also continue to remain available for sale, the studio will not actively kill off its old games in order to forceably drive players onto their replacements.
Quality of Projects
✔ Caledonia Interactive will maintain a high quality bar for its games:
The studio aims to deliver as much innovation as possible letting players experience content they have not seen before.
Push the Unreal Game Engine as much as possible and quickly adapt to new features and systems.
✗ Caledonia Interactive will not sacrifice quality for revenue:
The studio is not interested in making copycat games, trend chasing, shovelware or 'a quick buck'.
Monetization Practices
✔ Caledonia Interactive uses the premium pricing model:
Games are released with a single straightforward price.
Upcoming games price point will be disclosed to players as soon as possible.
Any DLC or expansions that are seperately priced will offer substantial new content and value to players.
When a customer buys a game from Caledonia Interactive as far as the studio is concerned they own it, the studios games will never be treated as licenses that the studio can unilaterally rescind.
✗ Caledonia Interactive will not employ predatory revenue methods:
The studio will not use microtransactions, live services nor any other aggressive forms of player monetization.
No loot boxes, gambling mechanics or deliberately addicting behaviour.
No crypto-farming nor blockchain games.
No pricing inflating immediately prior to offering any discounts or sales.
Usage of Artificial Intelligence
✔ Caledonia Interactive is in favour of Research AI:
The studio uses Google AI Mode Search and Epics internal AI Assistant for problem solving during game development as these tools give generally reliable results rapidly and encourages core game systems to be built to a common industry standard. This has significantly sped up development for Caledonia Interactive, reduced project risks based on technical hurdles and eased the addition of post launch content into projects architecture.
Research AI has been used to efficiently verify that in-game location names, character names, ability names, achievement names, etc do not violate copyright or cause offense in other cultures. AI is not used to come up with any names.
The studio has also used AI to assist with some business planning such as researching ideal release windows
✗ Caledonia Interactive prohibits the use of Generative AI:
No AI generated voices in shipped projects. All final voice acting is recorded by real people. Dialogue that is needed during development for timing purposes is created using a 1990's era Text-To-Speech generator.
No AI generated sound effects nor music in shipped projects. All audio in game will have been created by real people.
No AI generated text. All text in the studios games is written by the development team.
No AI generated 2D nor 3D artwork in projects. All work will either be in-house or marketplace assets created by a human.
No auto-generated code or blueprint in projects. While Research AI is extremely useful in finding the correct metholody there is no learning value gained by simply pasting solutions in.
✗ Caledonia Interactive also prohibits the use of any AI for Marketing purposes:
Caledonia Interactive does not use AI for any marketing purposes such as automated correspondence or the creation of articles.
The studio will not use AI to create any marketing graphics or other assets.
No bombardment tactics using AI, such as mass posting on social channels.
Studio Size & Operation
✔ Caledonia Interactive aims to stay small and adaptable:
Caledonia Interactive aims to remain as a small agile developer in terms of head count.
The studio will remain independently owned and operated.
✗ Caledonia Interactive will not engage in high risk development practices:
The studio prioritizes financial stablity and will not work on projects that will stress its finances or require unsecured hiring cycles.
The studio will not enter into contracts with publishers or third parties without assurances that prevent harmful unilateral actions made by that party.
